"Sunrise" ... East Cliffs , Cromer August 2007... Cromer beach is on the east coast, but because of the curve in the coastline faces almost directly north. As a result it enjoys a sea "sunrise" and sea "sunset", all in the same day, in mid-summer. The Pier points almost due north and not due east as one might expect.

20th March 2007 high Tide 7.30am, also on BBC website...Google 3 words: bbc keith deacon or/also bbc keith j. deacon or/also bbc keith j. deacon look east Available at:National Trust shop, Blickling Hall, Norfolk 2010/11
West Promenade Cromer morning of 9th November 2007 around 1 hour after high tide and few hours after the Sea Surge... large concrete blocks from walls shown scattered along prom and heavy metal bins moved many feet... a deckchair seen laying in mist of the wave, probably from inside one of the completely disappeared West Beach wooden beach huts.
9:11 uk 9th November 2007 after high tide & worst of storm when daylight broke & allowed pictures 7.30 am Google words: any combination of: bbc keith deaconor bbc keith j. deacon or bbc keith j. deacon look east This was when a North Sea "sea surge" came down from the north through atmospheric and storm conditions nearer the Arctic and together with an exceptionally high tide nearly in combination removed the top of the pier and almost broke through the "shingle" ridge at Salthouse. Luckily the "surge" and the "high tide" did not coincide but were around 60mins-100minutes separated in time (around 5am sea surge & high tide 6.17am Cromer). The Prime Minister, Brown and "Cobra" the emergency military group met at 6am. 20% of Norfolk would have been flooded as with its villages and people and Cambridge become almost Cambridge -on-Sea perhaps permanantly nor the Isle of Ely, a land locked town, an island again. Now organised "private" attempts are made (eg:in Essex) to defend the coast. In the east of England as all Governments have had no political will, nor responsibility, nor sentiment it seems in securing our territory,or even lives, at all costs...as Winston Churchil (1940's) once proclaimed, "...we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches...we shall never surrender". All is needed is an artificial Norwegian rock reef 200mtrs offshore to break waves with navigation breaks from Newcastle to Thames estuary (the same distnace as the Dutch coastline).
West Beach, Cromer 2007 "...Managed Retreat" is the UK Government Policy statement for the east coast (from Newcastle to Essex... is the same distance as is the Dutch coastline...Netherlands,named one of the 'Low Countries' as most of its territory is actually below sea level as is 20% of Norfolk...clearly & fortunately for Dutch inhabitants their government do not share the same political phiolsophy as the UK's over such territorial matters) This pill box built in the 1940's was once on the top of the Cliff now some hundreds of metres away and height of which shown by the cliffs in distance... built when Churchill gave his famous speach of defending at all costs every inch of this island ... so strongly built to resist attack it survives the wrath of the storms and sea every day leaving the cliffs in retreat as with our past Governments..
9:11 but uk....9th November 2007 7am just after the high tide 6.17 and sea surge at around 5.30am .... shows damage to concrete walls on West Promenade running with 2 feet of water and waves. Council Brick beach huts were all damaged, doors and windows pushed in or removed as were some brick walls. One end brick hut had only one wall standing just managing to hold its suspending roof. All the wooden Beach Huts from this West Promenade were completely removed & taken by the wind, sea & its storm; taken 'en bloc' somehow & through, over or past the pier to the end of East Promenade, about 1km away with all the wooden bits & even contents of the huts, kettles, etc. piled up in one place...on the beach in front of the east Beach Huts,on East Beach...these huts still stood, but in sad state. Large black pieces shown in the picture (above) on the West Promenade are in fact very large concrete and brick segments. A Tide and Sea Surge that was only few inches from going over the pier and here shown in this photo actually on retreat & later when with dawn breaking & daylight, able to take the photo (ie:1.5hrs after main damage) Best images not possible as it was too dark at 5.30-6.15 am to take photos when sea at highest & wind too & when most damage took place.Pier suffered damage (holes, boards & girders cracked & pushed up... [now as at 2009, emergency repairs have been done & pier & promenade in full use]

Photo-art: meaning for example the beach scenes are actual photographs adjusted on software to create a "painting" effect. This is the only effect and adjustment made... and only to the daytime beach scenes.... (the few exceptions to colour changes are: some Cromer Pier ones at bottom & The Lighthouse day photo made to look like a night scene and the ones that are sepia in colour...) However, the "Sunset" and "Storm" pictures are as recorded by the camera with no later software adjustments or painting effects created, as I feel this not only ruins them which the eye can detect but loses the real natural beauty and integrity of the scene that in any case cannot be made better than nature has given at that moment.... Also, apart from the painting effect,no colour adjustments are made to the Seascape & Landscape scenes, again as this ruins the integrity and beauty of that moment... for example the very "blue" picture of 1st February 2007 of East Beach, Cromer scene was as recorded by the camera on that gloriously bright blue sky and chilly morning in February......(as mentioned:the only exceptions are some pier ones & 'The Lighthouse' clearly made to look like a 'moonlight night' scene and the 'sepia ' looking ones...) [ In Portraits & Photo-artsections/pages, there are many experimentations in colour and other adjustments... here "photo-art" is taken to its extreme with much artistic license.]keith@purimages.co.uk
